About

In 1994,  an exploratory group was formed to determine the need for door to door refuse collection and disposal service in Talkeetna and the surrounding communities.  At that time there was no organized or certificated refuse companies offering refuse service in the Upper Susitna Valley.  In early 1995 Talkeetna Refuse began the formal permitting process to offer residential, commercial and dumpster service in the Talkeetna, Sunshine, Caswell, Trapper Creek and Chulitna communities.

Equipment and personnel were acquired, landfill options were developed, and interim permission was granted to begin service on June 15, 1995.  On September 27, 1995, our Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity was granted by the State of Alaska.

In 1997 roll off container services for handling demolition and construction waste was added.  Then in 2000, a transfer station was constructed in the Sunshine area to consolidate waste into 120 cubic yard transfer trailers.

Currently,  Talkeetna Refuse is owned and operated by the original founder, Bill Stearns.
